The Tripp Fitness Center addition provides 12,500 square feet for cardio fitness and machine weights; 4,300 square feet for multipurpose rooms; 1,850 square feet for platform lifting; and 1,000 square feet for support spaces. The existing building is expanded with a two-level addition that is sheathed in a 100% recycled polycarbonate rain screen and aluminum/glass curtainwall. The building’s transparency provides views inward and outward, creating a see-and-be-seen environment. The two-level addition provides a new face to the athletics complex and creates a courtyard space for outdoor activities. At night, the building glows like a lantern. The renovations to the athletics locker rooms and sports medicine spaces took place in a 1960s modernist structure that was constructed of cast-in-place concrete. The antiquated space was converted to accommodate new team rooms for all men’s and women’s sports, visitors and officials. New restroom and shower facilities were provided as well.
